UNIRAID – A solidarity adventure

UNIRAID

Recently, we had the opportunity to follow the participation of Miguel Moreno and his son Miguel in UNIRAID, a solidarity adventure that brought together around 150 teams, including 65 Portuguese teams, to travel approximately 3,500 km across Morocco.

The challenge is demanding: cars over 15 years old, two-wheel drive only, an off-road route, stages inspired by the Dakar Rally, and navigation without GPS, using only a map and compass. To overcome dunes, obstacles, and unexpected challenges, team spirit, mutual support, and adaptability were essential.

Throughout the journey, control and planning played a fundamental role. From preparing the car and the solidarity supplies to managing resources and costs, everything had to be carefully planned. Even so, on a route of this nature, not everything goes as expected. That was precisely where adaptability, calmness, and a solution-focused mindset made the difference.

UNIRAID goes far beyond adventure. Each team carries solidarity supplies, such as clothing, school materials, and essential goods, which are delivered directly to local communities, helping to improve their living conditions.

This experience reflects values that are also part of the way we work at LOCK: preparation, precision, control, resilience, and the ability to turn challenges into solutions. Just like in a project or construction work, it was also necessary here to plan, prepare resources, rehabilitate an existing base, and transform it into something robust, functional, and ready to respond to a demanding context.

The participation of Miguel Moreno and his son reflects this balance between adventure, responsibility, and purpose. It is an experience that shows how mutual support, preparation, and the desire to do better gain even greater meaning when linked to a charitable cause.

At LOCK, we believe that stepping out of our comfort zone is also part of the process of building something valuable. Whether in a project, on a construction site, or in a solidarity adventure, it is through preparation, adaptation, and the ability to act in the face of the unexpected that ideas are transformed into real impact.

More than a journey, UNIRAID was an experience of overcoming challenges, social responsibility, and positive impact..
