THYSSENKRUPP PORTUGAL

CLIENT BRIEF

Lock was responsible for the design and construction of the new ThyssenKrupp Portugal headquarters. The goal was to create an informal and creative environment, using timeless solutions and high-quality materials that would ensure high levels of satisfaction among work teams, enhancing well-being while reflecting the company’s innovative philosophy. An in-depth analysis of the company’s operations was carried out to develop a functional model that maximized the geometry and natural light of the new space. The aim was to create a layout that encouraged functional informality typical of a contemporary office, resulting in an inspiring, flexible, and colorful environment. The project was designed to promote interaction among employees, optimize space usage, and deliver a solid, high-quality outcome aligned with the client’s investment objectives.

SOLUTION

The chosen location was Sintra Retail Park, covering a total area of 2,000 sqm divided into two main zones: 1,500 sqm of office space and 500 sqm dedicated to warehouse use.

The company’s organizational structure required the creation of two distinct areas corresponding to the geographical markets in which it operates, along with a shared service area and a large logistics support warehouse within the building.

The guiding concept of the project was the integration of local and traditional references, such as wool from Burel Mountain Originals, lighting solutions from the Portuguese brand Indelague, and cork wall coverings. These elements reinforced a sense of identity and permanence in Portugal.

The use of natural and organic materials, combined with aluminum and glass structures and minimalist furniture, resulted in a contemporary and “organic” workspace—one where nature is integrated into the work environment, balancing efficiency with a green atmosphere.

In multiplying spaces, we typically created three types of uses: fixed workstations, offices, or hotdesking systems; meeting and general-purpose areas that can be used as workspaces, for informal meetings, formal meetings, concentration areas, or for use with necessary isolation; and creative areas such as the cafeteria, which allow teams to relax and interact informally and can be used with complete flexibility. In short, we equipped the office with spaces for working, meeting, and relaxing.
